This album was recorded in March 2012, and is Carson’s solo recording debut. Alongside Brahms’s powerful Piano Sonata in F minor and Liszt’s virtuosic Apres une Lecture de Dante, the album features Beethoven’s lesser known Fantasie, which is said to be an accurate record of Beethoven’s manner of concert improvisation: he reportedly wrote the piece down after improvising it in a concert. It also features Carson’s own transcription of the final song in Wagner’s Wesendonck cycle, Träume, and Liszt’s transcription of the heavenly Liebestod from Wagner’s music drama Tristan und Isolde.
